Tanka: Candle

Candles flickering
betray the lonely spirit,
the room’s sudden chill.
How long the living will wait
to have their questions answered

This crazy island
in this ridiculous world
Where is solace?
Somewhere the news cannot reach
and opinions have no sway

I’m building the ark
a bastion in my mind
that no one could breach,
my pure thought – the sent out dove –
in search of restoration

Out in the dank day
no one wants to speak to you.
Walk on forever.
A lonely metropolis
the snare of unwary souls

Poem: Eat and Sleep

The cat is like me,
doubtful of the weather
and the encroaching cold.
The open window is no invitation;
unlike me, for him there is
no tomorrow,
merely present hurdles to be passed,
one by one.
To eat, sleep and survive:
If only it was that simple
