As you may know, the United Kingdom is gripped by a government scandal, involving numerous individuals flagrantly breaking their own rules of isolation during the pandemic. I asked the cards, ‘will the government survive?’
The first card, representing the overall overt situation, was the 5 of Swords. I see this card as the equivalent of the second decanate of Aquarius ruled by Mercury. I think this shows rather well the conflict, the ongoing arguments, not only within the British Conservative party, but also in the whole political establishment and particularly the media. It will be temporary, but it is quite clearly very serious, a situation which has rightly raised the ire of the public.
The second card position is the covert, or hidden perspective. Here I drew the 6 of Cups, which is the third decanate of Scorpio ruled by the Moon. To me this suggests that underlying the headlines and the fury, we are now emerging from the pandemic paradigm which has completely dominated our lives for two years. Could it be that the stories and the headlines will act as a segue towards some form of normality in our lives? For me, this is a healing card.
However, there is an elephant in the room, constituting two profound questions that are still rarely asked. 1. Why has it taken until now, nearly two years into this pandemic, to discover the full extent of this scandalous behaviour?; and 2. Just what was/is it that many political and celebrity types knew that allowed them to brazenly carry on partying as if there was no deadly virus around us at all??? To me this covert 6 of Cups suggests in itself that there is something hidden and that all is not quite what it seems.
The final card on the right is the outcome, or resolution position, where I drew the Knight of Swords. For me this is Libra and to do with justice, perhaps swift justice in regard to this scandal. Swords are thoughts, information and the media; I think there may be a rather quick resolution to this issue, which will also clarify the truth of the situation which we have all faced for far too long. And that truth, I am sad to say, may be much more shocking than even the behaviour of certain government and other responsible officials.

This full Moon chart is set for Westminster, seat of the British government.
We are on the threshold of major political and economic changes, transformations and revelations everywhere and no more so than in Great Britain; they have already begun, but may come to a head around the day of the full moon.
Will the Prime Minister and the government survive? I don’t know, but this juncture looks particularly rocky and the road ahead uncertain. The British people, represented by a dignified and culminating Moon, and also the 4th house, look as though they’ve had quite enough to say the least of the whole situation.
So this full Moon will particularly affect the government and the people’s perception of it. But with Mercury retrograde it might be difficult, at first, to see what is truly going on, although the sense of shock will hard to conceal in certain quarters. Beware of the hype, the spin. Things which have been hidden could well be shown, and it may be quite upsetting for many.

I asked the cards how we were doing, not only in my country England and the UK, but also in the world in a general sense.
We have, after all, been in this particularly crazy and trying situation for nearly two years now, together. Are things getting better, clearer, or not?
For this question I used my own 7 card spread, which I call the ‘7 day week spread’. It’s not actually about 7 days but rather I’m using the 7 known traditional ‘planets’, including the Sun and Moon, as delineators for important areas of our national and international lives.
For example card 1 at the centre is my Sun (ie Sunday) card, which represents authority, government, monarchy, general well-being. Moon and Saturn days are self explanatory, but Tuesday is Mars, Wednesday is Mercury, Thursday is Jupiter and Friday is Venus. Think of the days of the week in French and you’ll get there.
For this reading I’m using one of my favoured Tarot de Marseille decks, the Ancient Italian Tarot by Lo Scarabeo.
So let’s start with the centre Sun card, which in this spread is La Papessa, or the High Priestess in the Rider-Waite decks. It is card 2 of the major arcana, indicating a feminine energy and perhaps a split or duality (2) in the situation right now. At the same time I think divine help is at hand and if we ask sincerely we can find out what’s been going on with all of our governmental institutions. Creatively too, it is time for self help, to look more deeply and not take everything at face value.
Card 2 is the Moon card on the top left of the spread, in this case the 7 of Wands, which for me is the first decanate of Sagittarius, ruled by Jupiter. The Moon represents emotion, feeling, the masses, family. I think we are making good progress here with our own discernment, we know our feelings have been played with and we are beginning to see with more clarity that certain strategies won’t work, whilst some others will. I think the ball is now in our court and we can come through in a much more positive forward thinking fashion.
Card 3 is the Mars card (Tuesday) on the top right of the spread – the Sun. Mars represents individual energy, drive, industry. The Sun shows that things are looking more positive, that we can project and make changes, begin to force our own futures for the better. New ventures should generally prosper from now on so long as they are grounded in sound principles.
Card 4 is the Mercury card (Wednesday) on the very top. Mercury is all to do with the mind, communication and the media. Here we have the Chariot, a very positive sign that things are changing. We will have freedom of movement and choice locally, we will be able to organise on a more local basis. I think we can look forward to a change in the media too, the way it is presented as ‘news’. This is likely to be quite radical, but may begin quite slowly. The sun will begin to shine in areas that have been dark for too long.
Card 5 is the Jupiter card (Thursday) at the very bottom. Jupiter is long distance travel, higher education, religion, spirituality and justice. The Hanged Man here shows that long distance travel will continue to be problematic for a time but will get easier in its own time. I think we are all going to be shocked at certain legal issues too, yet find that certain outcomes were absolutely necessary and justice will come in due course.
Card 6 is the Venus card (Friday) on the bottom left. Venus is our relationships, where we feel good about ourselves. Here we have the King of Coins or Pentacles, which to me represents Taurus. I think it’s suggesting that it’s time to reconnect to the earth, to nature and to simple things. It also shows that we are due some good news in regard to all this, which might even involve the issue of money and its usage.
Card 7 is the Saturn card (Saturday) on the bottom right. This is my longer term card, or possible outcome. Here we have the Ace of Wands, which is a very positive card indeed in this placing. All is about to be renewed, it would seem, from the ground up but most especially in a spiritual sense, for this card represents the beginning of spring, the first decanate of Aries ruled by Mars. It may even suggest that by next spring, 2022, we will be well on the way to recovery and forging new lives and communities for ourselves, beyond any limitation authorities can impose upon us. Let’s hope so.

The up and coming lunar eclipse on Sunday July 5 falls on a very sensitive point of the USA independence chart.
This will be almost exactly conjunct the Sun’s position in the eighth house in that 1776 chart, activating the important second and eighth house axis, which is all about national security, money, finance, investment, banking. The USA would appear to be at a significant point of change in these affairs.
Intriguingly, the Sun at this time is exactly conjunct the fixed star Sirius, Canis Major, or the ‘dog star’, which is thought to be largely beneficial, his effects ranging from guardianship (protection), honour, perhaps even to spiritual healing and rebirth, some believe. Sirius is obscured by the Sun from early July until the second week of August, these are the so called ‘dog days’.
This might be highly significant, especially as this period will last until Sirius’ rising at the beautifully termed Lion’s Gate in August. We could all do with some spiritual, mental and physical protection and healing right now.
In the chart for the eclipse itself, set for Washington DC, the tenth and fourth houses are particularly activated, highlighting the dichotomy between the government and opposition in the United States, the Sun and Moon also squaring the ascending degree of the chart.
And talking of ascendants, Aries is rising and therefore Mars is the chart ruler, who happens to be powerfully placed in his own sign. The whole situation is therefore energised, even bellicose, so we might expect some ‘fireworks’. Mars is in difficult aspect to Mercury, so expect caustic commentary and irritation too.
That said, Mars is in positive aspect to Venus in Gemini the third house – potential here for some ‘good news’ – we could do with some of that.
Interestingly, the Sun and Moon make a positive aspect to Uranus in Taurus in the second house, indicating the potential for positive change in regard to the economy, money, finance and banking. There are likely to be a few surprises here.
It certainly has the potential to be a weekend we won’t easily forget.

So finally the United Kingdom has an election to ‘clear the air’ surrounding Brexit and Parliament. But will it solve anything?
The chart set for the opening of the polls at 7 am, December 12 2019 at Westminster, London, is fascinating, not merely for the fact that a full Moon has just occurred, a sign of culmination and change.
In this chart Sagittarius is rising. The first house in mundane astrology is usually indicative of the nation as a whole. I would tentatively state that this indicates that the nation is in a good, expansive mood, ready to move on, make positive progress, Sagittarius being the mutable fire sign. The sun is also in Sagittarius, underscoring this point.
A nation more informed and expansive?
Mercury is within orbs of a conjunction with the rising degree, perhaps a sign that the nation is at last more fully informed, open minded and conscious about all the pros and cons of Brexit, what type of Brexit it wants and where the country as a whole should be going. Mercury is, however, in the sign of its detriment, which traditionally is less positive.
Interestingly Mercury is ruler of the 10th house, which (along with the MC or midheaven) is to do with the government. Maybe this is a further indication that the government has succeeded in tapping the mind of the nation and its people during the campaign.
With Sagittarius rising, Jupiter is the ruling planet. Jupiter is found in Capricorn (the sign of its fall) in the 2nd house of the economy and finance. This would, by and large, seem positive (despite the fact Jupiter is in the sign of its fall), that practical (Capricorn) considerations have been made and discussed and that there may be serious potential for some important trade deals (2nd house) in the offing, for example.
Jupiter makes a fairly tight positive trine aspect to Uranus in the 6th house, which may indicate that the government could pull certain surprising ‘rabbits out of hats’ in regard to trade and the economy in general, perhaps with the promise of securing large numbers of extra jobs in its manifesto, for instance – a usual ploy though.
That said, Jupiter is also ruler of the 4th house which stands for the opposition parties, who therefore may also benefit, or give a much better showing in terms of results than anyone predicted. It’s difficult to say which will come to fruition, although at present I would favour the government, especially as Neptune is found in the opposition’s house (4th), which implies a confusion of ideas and ideals.
Venus in the pit – a positive effect?
The MC or midheaven is also a strong indicator of the government’s standing. In this chart it is in Libra, whose ruler is Venus, which, very interestingly, is making a tight triple conjunction with the daunting Saturn and Pluto ‘diabolical double act’ in Capricorn in the 2nd house.
Venus is termed the lesser benefic and actually sits nicely between baleful Saturn and penetrating Pluto, perhaps acting as a kind emollient, softening influence, maybe even allowing for more positive change politically (Capricorn) and economically (2nd house), as a result of this election.
What is more, returning to the full Moon, or the sun and Moon opposition, which I talked about in the previous post, this Venus, along with Saturn and Pluto, form an interesting semi sextile (30 degrees) aspect to the sun and is also inconjunct or quincunx aspect (150 degrees) to the Moon.
To my mind this shows Venus (in conjunction with Saturn and Pluto) having the potential to positively offload the great tension of the situation in the election, the full Moon, and plough it into beneficial news and results politically and economically, along with Pluto’s potential to ‘drain the swamp’ and Saturn’s ability to begin to build again. We shall see, it’s tempting and all too easy to read too much into this, but fascinating nevertheless.

While Britain was baking in the searing heat of the afternoon of July 24, Boris Johnson met the Queen in the relative cool of Buckingham Palace to officially become the new Prime Minister.
Within a few short hours, the old Cabinet was gone, and a new team stuffed full of Brexiteers was assembled. But already many are asking if these drastic changes will make any difference at all to the outcome of Brexit and the course of the country in general.
I thought I would take look at the chart for the exact time the Prime Minister met with the Queen, when he officially took over that office of the realm.
Well, my first impressions are that this is indeed a more positive chart. Using the ‘whole signs’ house system, the ruler of the chart, Mars, is in Leo in the 10th house along with the Sun. This is a sure sign of positive, dynamic leadership.
Indeed, the 10th house, in mundane terms, is about governing; so this Mars will add great energy, drive, dynamism and determination to the government’s purpose.
A growing economy
Mars is also in good aspect to a retrograde Jupiter in Sagittarius in the 2nd house, perhaps hinting of some good fortune along the way, especially in financial terms, so we might see some interesting trade deals in the offing, too.
Or it could also mean that a so-called ‘no deal’ will not be anywhere as problematic as was once thought – good fortune through the back door, so to speak, as perhaps befits a retrograde Jupiter, a way of counting our blessings.
Either way, this Mars Jupiter link bodes well for the government in general and for the economy.
However, the Mercury (retrograde) Venus conjunction in Cancer in the 9th house, although might tend to favour reasonable negotiating possibilities in foreign policy, particularly with Brussels and the EU, is also challenged by an Aries’ Moon in the 6th house.
The retrograde Mercury fixed in this chart is a problem, rendering it difficult to make concrete decisions. Mercury turns direct again on August 2, so this should help, so long as the Johnson premiership continues full steam ahead.
It’s also especially worth remembering that Mercury also rules the midheaven sign of Virgo and the 11th house in this chart, so its being retrograde and in square aspect to the Moon will also bring difficulty to the government’s stance, particularly in regard to legislation and the nature of the House of Commons.
Expect the unexpected
There is also the presence of Uranus in Taurus in the 7th house of diplomacy. All these factors to me suggest, not surprisingly, that the roller coaster ride of Brexit will continue, with delaying tactics, more sudden twists and unexpected turns (Uranus), particularly in relation to the EU’s negotiating stance in regards to financial settlements (Taurus), again making it quite difficult for the government to keep the public on board.
It might be that any compromise deal that is hatched to prevent a no deal, for example, will simply not be enough for most of those who simply want out of the EU. For me this is symbolised by the fiery, impatient Moon in Aries in the 6th house square to the Mercury Venus conjunction.
Brexit before October 31?
The new PM has said that the UK will be leaving on October 31 2019. Can he deliver? Well, he has made a very decisive start, but I think he should remember, as any PM should, to expect the unexpected, as Uranus’ position shows.
It might be that one of the unexpected happenings is beneficial, creating a window of opportunity to leave earlier than expected. The Mars trine Jupiter aspect hints at a luck factor in the government’s favour. Jupiter itself turns direct again on August 11, joining Mercury going forward.
Very interestingly, Mercury turns retrograde again on October 31, so I think the government’s best chance of success is to deliver Brexit before that date, somewhere between August 11 and October 31, possibly around the September new moon on the 28th.
Drastic political changes
If the UK does not leave by October 31, it’s difficult to see when it actually will. The forthcoming Saturn Pluto conjunction in Capricorn early next year is already casting its long term effect on all existing political structures. Capricorn is very important to the UK, as seen 1066 chart for England, for instance, which resonates to this day.
The clear out of the old and the beginning of a new political era could make Brexit seem quite irrelevant going into next year. And as some believe, Pluto could be seen as the co-ruler of this chart, making the next few months and years even more significant.
So, bearing all this in mind, I think the best chance of Brexit ‘success’ has to be carried forward by the positive, dynamic leadership revealed in this chart and to deliver it sooner rather than later.

So, finally, the British PM has decided to call it a day. It was sad to see her so upset though – she’s done her best.
But from an astrological angle, what did the mundane chart of the time of her public resignation show?
Well, for a start, it’s a more positive chart than some I’ve seen during this protracted Brexit process.
There’s a Leo ascendant and an Aries midheaven. Decisions! Albeit in the negative – she’s leaving.
Leo declares publicly, dramatically. An Aries midheaven, the ‘government’ sector of the chart, shows decisive leadership. Its ruler, Mars, is in Cancer, which may reveal something of the emotive and patriotic nature of the statement.
The Moon, now in Aquarius in the seventh house, exactly and positively trine Mercury in Gemini, indicates the open declaration to the public, the outside world.
Uranus in the tenth house may reveal a change at the top, though this was hardly unexpected.
In all, this chart to me seems to symbolise a clearing of the air, maybe the chance of a new start, of sorts.
A very interesting quick look – but who might her successor be?

Doing it for Free
A recession bites it makes long winter nights
even less tolerable than they already are
Look – I’ve been very good! Done everything I should
but years of saving hasn’t got me very far
They bail out the banks and we get no thanks
in a reckless bid to get us out of a hole
They ask for ideas confirming our worst fears
by putting millions of us on the dole
As for me, I keep schtum head down, looking glum
I’m like an iceberg there’s so little to see
No government shall take my life or my stake
I won’t bow down or do anything for free
